Ask an Advocate is an online service for students, faculty and staff of the University of Illinois at Chicago. CAN advocates are trained to provide services, information, and resources regarding sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, stalking, consent, healthy relationships and bystander interventions to survivors of interpersonal violence, their friends, family members and allies who are members of the UIC community.
How confidential is Ask an Advocate?
Ask an Advocate is designed to be a one on one exchange between the individual and the advocate. In accordance with CAN’s policies, we will not share the content of this email exchange or your identity outside of CAN staff unless legally compelled to do so (for example, if your question includes a report of child abuse), or if the content includes a legitimate threat to yourself or others.
The Ask an Advocate option is not meant to address emergency situations. If you need immediate assistance, please call our office at (312) 413-8206 between 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday, or if it is outside those hours you can contact:
